**DeFi stablecoin yields are compressed vs. U.S. Treasuries.** The Fed funds rate holds at 3.50–3.75%; 3-month T-bills yield ~3.7%. Aave's core USDC pools on Ethereum yield just ~2.0%, USDT ~2.5% — a *negative* risk premium against a risk-free benchmark. Higher yields of 8–27%+ exist, but require accepting newer protocols, smaller chains, or reward-heavy APYs that may not sustain.

**🔴 Active Risk Incidents (April–May 2026):**
- **Kelp / rsETH exploit**: LayerZero DVN bridge manipulation; Aave collaborated with KelpDAO to close attacker positions. ~$161M recovery package assembled by April 25. Aave tightened caps across 23 markets. **rsETH pools are excluded** from this dashboard via the exploit filter.
- **Fluid Protocol — Resolv bad debt**: $21M in bad debt from the Resolv exploit. Fully covered by Fluid, Resolv, and partners as of May 2026. Fluid pools are included — but monitor closely given recency of the event.

**Safety legend:** ⚠️ = TVL < $5M (elevated exit-liquidity risk) · ✓ = TVL ≥ $5M threshold. All pools shown are active and exploit-filtered.

TVL depth and revenue generation are the two most reliable safety proxies for lending protocols. **Aave V3** holds the largest TVL ($20B+) and has demonstrated crisis resilience through the Kelp incident. **Morpho Blue** is the fastest-growing, now rivaling Compound and Spark — its modular vault architecture lets curators (Steakhouse, Gauntlet, Re7) manage specific risk tranches, which isolates contagion risk. **Revenue** tracks genuine borrow demand — protocols where revenue grows alongside TVL are utilizing capital productively, not just attracting idle deposits.

Top Lending Protocols — Revenue (30d, Weekly)

**Ethereum dominates** with ~$10.9B in stablecoin yield TVL across USDT/USDC/USDG/PYUSD — anchored by Morpho vaults, Aave V3, Pendle, and Euler V2. **Base** ($1.7B) is the fastest-growing venue, driven by Coinbase Borrow demand routing USDC through Morpho on Base at steadier ~4% utilization. **Solana** ($803M) shows PYUSD strength (Kamino Lend, Jupiter Lend) and USDG traction. **Arbitrum** ($519M) hosts large PYUSD positions via USD AI ($284M TVL) and USDT via Fluid Lending ($44M). **Plasma** and **Hyperliquid L1** are outlier chains with elevated APY but smaller TVL bases — higher yield, higher chain-level risk.

🌐 Section 4 — Chain Breakdown: Where Stablecoin Yield Lives

Stablecoin Yield TVL by Chain (USDT + USDC + USDG + PYUSD combined)

**Why revenue-to-token-value-capture is the defining investment metric of 2025–2026**

The TVL era is over. In 2021–2023, protocols competed on TVL — a metric cheap to manufacture with token emissions and meaningless for token holders. In 2025–2026, sophisticated capital is asking a harder question: *which protocols generate genuine, sustainable fee income — and which actually route that value to token holders?*

Our 7-protocol universe collectively generates **$3.9B+ in annualized gross fees**. These are not yield-farming phantoms — they represent the deepest pools of verifiable, on-chain revenue in crypto. The analytical framework has three layers: **Gross Fees** (total economic throughput), **Protocol Revenue** (retained after LP/validator cuts), and **Holder Revenue** (what flows directly to token holders via buybacks, burns, or distributions).

The gap between layer 1 and layer 3 — the *value capture efficiency ratio* — is the single most important number for token selection. **Hyperliquid: 90% capture. Uniswap: 1.4% (but about to change). Aerodrome: 77%.** That gap is where alpha hides.

*Key data as of May 2026 — Hyperliquid: $1.05B/yr gross fees → $943M protocol revenue (90% capture). Aave: $951M fees → $127M revenue (13% capture). Uniswap: $892M fees → $12M revenue (1.4% capture, pre-full fee switch). Jupiter: $444M fees → $134M revenue (30% capture).*

The Fundamental Shift: Protocol Revenue & Token Value Capture

The charts below rank the universe of DeFi protocols by gross fees and by retained protocol revenue over the trailing year. The structural insight: **fees** measure economic throughput (who captures user activity), while **revenue** measures what the protocol actually keeps after paying liquidity providers and validators.

Several app-layer protocols in this cohort — Hyperliquid, Uniswap, Aave — generate more gross fees than the chains they run on. Yet chains often beat most apps on *retained* revenue due to base fee burns and mandatory validator distributions. This is the full-stack picture that purely TVL-focused analysis misses.

§ 2 — Annualized Revenue Rankings: Who Controls the Fee Economy

Top 15 Protocols by Gross Fees (Trailing 365d)

Top 15 Protocols by Protocol Revenue (Trailing 365d)

Most DeFi protocols generate fees. Very few give those fees to their token holders. The critical metric separating commodity infrastructure from an *investable token* is holder revenue — the slice that flows directly to token holders via buybacks, burns, or on-chain distributions.

**Three tiers define the value capture spectrum:**

- **Gross Fees:** Total economic activity. Impressive, but split between LPs, validators, and the protocol. Uniswap generates ~$892M/yr — LPs capture 98.6%.
- **Protocol Revenue:** What the treasury retains after paying supply-side participants. Aave retains $127M of its $951M in fees (13%).
- **Holder Revenue:** What flows to *token holders*. The number that closes the loop between protocol success and token appreciation.

| Protocol | Gross Fees | Protocol Revenue | Capture Rate | Mechanism |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Hyperliquid** | $1.05B | $943M | **90%** | 99% of fees → HYPE Assistance Fund buyback |
| **Aerodrome** | $136M | $105M | **77%** | veAERO bribe + emissions revenue loop |
| **Jupiter** | $444M | $134M | **30%** | JUP buyback & burn from perps/aggregator rev |
| **GMX** | $44M | $16M | **36%** | 30% of protocol fees → GMX stakers |
| **Uniswap** | $892M | $12M | **1.4%** | Fee switch + 100M UNI burn (UNIfication) |
| **Aave** | $951M | $127M | **13%** | Buy & Distribute to AAVE safety module stakers |
| **Jito** | $345M | $19M | **5.5%** | JTX staking rewards; MEV tips flow to validators |

*Hyperliquid's 90% capture rate at $1B+ scale is unprecedented in DeFi. Uniswap's 1.4% is the most asymmetric catalyst — UNIfication activation could 10-25x effective holder revenue at current fee levels.*

§ 3 — Holder Revenue: The Ultimate Differentiator

Top 15 Protocols by Holder Revenue — Token-Holder Value Distributed

Snapshots lie. Trajectories reveal conviction. Three protocols at fundamentally different stages of their revenue journey — shown in fees (gross throughput) and revenue (protocol capture) side-by-side to make the capture gap visible:

**Hyperliquid:** Scaled from ~$0 to $1B+ annualized fees in under 18 months. Fees and revenue lines nearly overlap — confirming 90%+ capture. Every dollar of user trading activity creates systematic HYPE buyback demand. Risk: $12.6B mcap prices in continued DEX dominance (currently ~70% of on-chain perps volume).

**Jito:** Structurally sticky MEV revenue (function of block space demand, not incentives). The fee-to-revenue gap is massive: 94.5% flows to Solana validators, not JTO holders. A Solana ecosystem growth bet more than a revenue accrual story.

**Uniswap:** The sleeping giant. $892M in gross fees, $12M in protocol revenue. The UNIfication governance proposal (Nov 2025) is the live catalyst: full activation could push revenue toward $100–300M annualized. Watch for any step-up in the revenue line — it signals fee switch traction.

§ 4 — Revenue Trajectories: Hyperliquid vs Jito vs Uniswap

**Two ratios, one framework for protocol valuation:**

**P/S (Price-to-Sales):** Market Cap ÷ Annualized Protocol Revenue. The crypto equivalent of equity P/S — measures how expensive the token is relative to what the protocol *retains*. Distorted by fee-split design: Uniswap's 61x P/S looks expensive only because 98.6% of fees go to LPs. If UNIfication activates at $300M annualized revenue, Uniswap P/S compresses to ~7x at current mcap — a violent re-rating with zero price move.

**P/F (Price-to-Fees):** Market Cap ÷ Annualized Gross Fees. Fee-split-agnostic — compares token price against total economic throughput. Better for cross-protocol comparisons.

| Protocol | Mcap | P/S | P/F | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Hyperliquid** | $12.6B | 20.7x | 18.5x | Premium for market leadership + buyback velocity |
| **Aave** | $1.3B | 12.7x | **1.6x** | Cheapest on gross fees — wide margin of safety |
| **Uniswap** | $2.3B | 61.2x | 4.8x | P/S optical illusion; fee switch = massive catalyst |
| **Jupiter** | $710M | 14.6x | 4.7x | Fair value; cheap vs 2024 peaks |
| **Aerodrome** | $387M | **8.4x** | 4.1x | Best P/S in cohort; veAERO mechanics priced in |
| **Jito** | $254M | 116.8x | 2.7x | P/S trap — most fees leave protocol |
| **GMX** | $69M | **7.9x** | 2.9x | Cheapest cohort member; volume depressed |

**Alpha signal:** Aave's P/F of 1.6x is extraordinary for a protocol generating $951M in gross fees. At 1.6x P/F, the margin of safety is unusually wide for a category leader with active buy & distribute mechanics.

§ 5 — Valuation Framework: P/S and P/F Ratios

P/S Ratio Over Time — Protocol Valuation vs Retained Revenue

Protocol income statements reveal the full economic architecture — from gross fees at the top down to what remains for token holders. Reading the income statement: **Gross Fees → Supply-Side Revenue** (fees to LPs/validators) **→ Protocol Revenue** (treasury retention) **→ minus Incentive Spend** (token emissions) **→ Earnings** (net protocol profit/loss).

Hyperliquid and Uniswap are the two most instructive case studies in DeFi today:

- **Hyperliquid:** Near-zero incentive spend, near-100% fee retention. The income statement resembles a high-margin SaaS business with no customer acquisition cost. Every dollar of user trading fees becomes protocol revenue almost entirely — then flows directly to the HYPE buyback engine.

- **Uniswap:** 98.6% of gross fees are supply-side costs to LPs. Protocol revenue is minimal at current fee switch penetration — but growing. Watch the revenue-to-gross-fees ratio widen as UNIfication activates across more pools and chains through 2026.

§ 6 — Income Statements: The Full Revenue Stack

Price is the lagging indicator. Revenue is the leading indicator. Cross-reference the token price trajectories below against the revenue trends in Section 4 to identify divergences between fundamental momentum and price momentum — those gaps represent actionable alpha.

**Key per-token thesis:**
- **HYPE ($52, $12.6B mcap):** Most mechanically direct value accrual in DeFi — every $1 of protocol revenue creates systematic market buying. Asymmetric risk: Hyperliquid losing perps DEX dominance. Currently commands ~70% of on-chain perps volume.
- **UNI ($3.60, $2.3B mcap):** The highest-convexity trade in the cohort. $892M gross fees at 1.4% capture. If UNIfication reaches $150M+ annualized revenue, UNI trades at sub-15x P/S — a binary governance catalyst.
- **JTO ($0.54, $254M mcap):** Cheapest on P/F (2.7x) but structurally challenged. MEV value primarily flows to Solana validators, not JTO holders. Pure Solana ecosystem growth bet.
- **AAVE ($88, $1.3B mcap):** Cheapest on gross-fee-adjusted basis (1.6x P/F). The buy & distribute mechanism is live. A rising-rate, rising-borrow-demand macro environment is the key catalyst.

Jupiter

Token Market Cap Comparison — HYPE vs UNI vs AAVE vs JUP

App-layer protocols don't exist in isolation — they depend on and contribute to chain-level economics. Ethereum and Solana are the two most important settlement layers for this cohort.

**Ethereum:** Chain fees represent EIP-1559 burns (deflationary ETH supply) plus priority fees to validators. Uniswap, Aave, and Hyperliquid collectively generate more *app-layer* fees on Ethereum than the chain earns at the base layer — but ETH captures this value indirectly through burn mechanics and staking demand.

**Solana:** App-layer fees ($174M in last 30d) vastly outpace chain-level validator income ($14.9M), confirming Solana's economic model is app-driven not base-layer-driven. Jupiter and Jito are among Solana's top revenue generators — Solana's fee explosion is structurally dependent on these protocols maintaining their dominance.

**Investment implication:** Chain fee growth and protocol fee growth are correlated but not identical. ETH and SOL as 'internet bond' yield instruments complement the app-layer protocol thesis — chain growth lifts all boats.

§ 8 — Chain Revenue Baselines: Ethereum & Solana

**Solana's DeFi thesis has evolved from a trading chain to a full-stack financial ecosystem.** Six protocols now hold $10B+ TVL each — Jito leads, followed by Kamino, Jupiter, and Marinade. SOL-denominated TVL hit an all-time high in early 2026 *while* SOL price fell 57%, signaling institutional capital deploying into protocols rather than price-chasing. Net ecosystem inflows reached $381M in Q1 2026 (69% originating from Ethereum bridges).

Institutional onboarding is accelerating: Kamino crossed $1B in RWA market size with Anchorage Digital enabling off-chain custodial collateral; Gauntlet launched an institutional USDC vault; Jupiter processed ~62% of all Solana DEX volume — a share that has been remarkably stable for 18 months. Firedancer (live multi-client) has materially reduced outage risk. MiCA compliance is opening European institutional flows.

🏆 Top Solana Protocols by Category

### Understanding the Fee → Revenue Split

**Fees** = total value paid by users to the protocol ecosystem (LPs + protocol treasury + token holders combined).
**Revenue** = the portion the *protocol itself* captures — what remains after paying out LPs and stakers.

| Protocol | Fee Model | Revenue Retention | Implication for Token Holders |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Jito** | MEV tips + staking commission | Low treasury; almost all flows to jitoSOL stakers | Revenue accrues to *stakers*, not JTO treasury directly |
| **Kamino** | Lending spread (borrow rate − supply rate) | High — spread is nearly pure protocol revenue | KMNO benefits directly from lending volume growth |
| **Raydium** | 0.25% swap fee (0.22% LPs, 0.03% protocol) | ~12% retention — protocol buys back RAY | Moderate; RAY buybacks funded by protocol cut |
| **Jupiter** | Perps: counterparty P&L + position fees | Perps revenue stays with protocol entirely | JUP directly benefits from perpetuals dominance |
| **Meteora** | DLMM dynamic fees split LPs + protocol | ~20% to protocol | MET token value tied to fee volume growth |

💡 **For investors:** Protocols with high fee-to-revenue retention (Kamino, Jupiter Perps) have stronger token value accrual. Pass-through protocols (Jito, Raydium LPs) are better for *DeFi users* than token investors. The income statements below visualize this split directly.

⚠️ **Higher-risk flags:** Any protocol with TVL < $20M **or** listed < 6 months ago warrants extra caution — smart contract risk is highest in the first 6 months. Newer Solana protocols (RWA newcomers, emerging LSTs) fall into this category. Always verify whether a specific vault/pool has been individually audited, not just the parent protocol.

🔒 **For DeFi users:** Start with Tier 1 protocols for core positions. Tier 2 is appropriate for diversified yield strategies with disciplined position sizing.

🛡️ Safety & Track Record — Know Your Risk Before You Deposit

**Solana liquid staking is the largest TVL category — and the competition is fierce.** JitoSOL leads with MEV-boosted yields (MEV tips add ~1–2% APY on top of base staking rewards of ~7%). mSOL (Marinade) offers broad validator diversification and the deepest DeFi integrations across 40+ protocols. For advanced users, Kamino lending vaults layer on additional yield by deploying staked SOL as collateral.

**How to use the yield table below:** Filter by asset (SOL, USDC, USDT), compare APY vs TVL — pools with very high APY and low TVL often carry reward-token inflation risk. Only active, non-exploited pools with TVL > $5M are shown. Sorted by APY descending to surface the best current entry points.

🥩 Liquid Staking & Yield Opportunities on Solana

Liquid Staking TVL: JitoSOL vs mSOL (Marinade)

The Solana token landscape bifurcates into **infrastructure tokens** (JTO, JUP — direct protocol revenue accrual with network-effect moats) and **DEX/trading tokens** (RAY, ORCA — LP fee-dependent, correlated to trading volumes). KMNO is the highest-growth candidate given Kamino's lending dominance and institutional RWA expansion. PYTH is oracle infrastructure with fee-per-data-request revenue across 50+ chains.

**Key investor signals to watch:**
- **P/S ratio** (FDV ÷ annualized revenue) — lower = cheaper relative to revenue. Benchmarks: <10x = value, 10–30x = fair, >50x = growth premium
- **JTO + JUP:** Most defensible revenue models backed by deep network effects — Jupiter's routing share has been stable, Jito's MEV infrastructure is embedded in the validator stack
- **DRIFT + KMNO:** Growth-stage with improving fundamentals; watch for perps market share shifts and Kamino institutional product expansion
- **Token unlocks:** A key risk for all Solana ecosystem tokens — large vesting cliffs can create near-term selling pressure. Check Orca's unlock schedule in particular.

90D Price Performance: KMNO vs MNDE vs ORCA (% change)

**Jupiter's ~62% DEX market share has remained remarkably stable for 18 months** — it is the routing layer, not a competitor to AMMs. The underlying liquidity providers (Raydium, Meteora, Orca) benefit from Jupiter-routed volume flowing through their pools. Jupiter processed $29.8B of $48.2B total Solana DEX volume in February 2026 alone.

On the perps side, **Jupiter Perpetuals** (~$3.4B/month) and **Drift** are the dominant venues. Phoenix Perpetuals (prop-AMM architecture using spot liquidity to support perps) is the next entrant to watch in H1 2026.

**Reading the charts:** DEX volume (left) = actual swap volume by AMM. Perps volume (right) = perpetual futures notional traded. Both stacked — watch relative share shifts over time to identify market share trends before they become consensus.

🏆 Section 3 — Top Protocols by TVL

**Fee-to-Revenue Ratio as a Protocol Health Signal:** Revenue = fees retained by the protocol treasury or distributed to token holders (as opposed to fees paid out to LPs/suppliers). A low P/S ratio (FDV ÷ annualized revenue) = undervalued relative to earnings.

**Key signals to watch:**
- **Aave** — strong revenue capture (~50%+ fee retention); AAVE token holders receive a portion via Safety Module
- **Uniswap** — ~100% of fees to LPs historically; fee switch partially activated in 2024; watch for v4 hooks dynamics
- **Lido** — ~10% protocol take rate on staking rewards; very stable, predictable revenue
- **Sky/MakerDAO** — stability fees + RWA yields drive substantial protocol revenue
- **Ethena** — basis trading revenue; highly variable with funding rates

Protocols where revenue growth *outpaces* fee growth are increasing take rates — a structural bullish signal for token holders.

**Risk taxonomy:** Smart contract (all) · Centralization/governance (Lido, Sky) · Systemic funding rate (Ethena) · Novel slashing (EigenLayer/Restaking) · Early-stage (Ink) · Regulatory (RWA protocols).

🛡️ Section 5 — Safety & Track Record

**Active yield pools — non-exploited, sorted by APY.** Key reference anchors:
- **Morpho Vaults** — optimized supply on top of Aave/Compound; often highest USDC/USDT APY on Mainnet with similar risk profile
- **Aave V3** — largest, most liquid lending market; benchmark rates across USDT, USDC, ETH, wstETH
- **Pendle PT markets** — lock in *fixed* ETH staking yield; PT-stETH and PT-weETH let you exit yield volatility
- **Spark DSR / sUSDS** — Sky's savings rate, governed by MakerDAO; currently competitive on stablecoins

**Strategy note:** For stablecoins, Morpho > Aave on raw APY (less overhead). For ETH/wstETH, Pendle PT is the only way to get truly fixed-rate exposure. L2 yields often higher (Base/Arbitrum Morpho) but carry bridge & sequencer risk.

🌾 Section 6 — Lending & Yield Opportunities

**ETH staking is Ethereum's yield backbone.** ~28M ETH is staked (~23% of total supply). Lido holds ~30% of all staked ETH — approaching the critical **33% threshold** where single-entity dominance could theoretically influence finality. The Lido centralization debate is ongoing.

**Restaking (EigenLayer + Symbiotic)** extends staked ETH as economic security for Actively Validated Services (AVS). Novel systemic risk: AVS slashing conditions are still being battle-tested. Renzo (ezETH) and similar LRT wrappers add a smart contract layer atop LST risk.

**Decision framework:**
- *Maximum liquidity + DeFi integration* → Lido stETH
- *Decentralization priority* → Rocket Pool rETH (mini-pools, smaller operator minimums)
- *Yield maximization* → Restaking via EigenLayer/Symbiotic (but accept slashing layering)
- *Conservative* → Avoid restaking until AVS slashing is battle-tested

Liquid Staking Market Share on Ethereum

**RWA is the highest-sentiment DeFi sector in May 2026 (0.88 bullish, 34 events in 24h).** Ethereum hosts ~80% of tokenized RWA market cap. Key players:

- **BlackRock BUIDL** — largest tokenized T-bill fund on-chain; institutional-only, Ethereum native; backed by BlackRock credibility
- **Ondo Finance (OUSG / USDY)** — yield-bearing USD tokens with DeFi composability; growing cross-chain
- **Sky/MakerDAO** — holds $1B+ in T-bills backing DAI/USDS; blending CeFi yield with DeFi protocol
- **Maple Finance** — institutional private credit; undercollateralized lending to verified counterparties
- **Centrifuge** — tokenized real-world credit (invoices, trade finance); pioneer of on-chain structured credit

**Regulatory note (MiCA, EU):** Active legislative discussions in May 2026 around RWA token classification. Monitoring regulatory developments is critical for this sector.

🏦 Section 8 — Real World Assets (RWA) on Ethereum

**Ethereum's L2 ecosystem is DeFi's fastest growth frontier.** The combined L2 TVL now represents a meaningful share of Mainnet TVL, with differentiated ecosystems emerging:

- **Arbitrum** — GMX (perps), Aave, Uniswap deep liquidity; the most mature DeFi L2 with ARB governance token
- **Base (Coinbase)** — Morpho, Aerodrome (ve-3-3 AMM), Aave; Coinbase's retail distribution is a structural adoption advantage; highest DEX volume growth velocity
- **Polygon** — POL token migration ongoing (MATIC → POL); Sony, Starbucks, Reddit use cases; dominant institutional/enterprise adoption path
- **Ink (Kraken)** — OP Stack Superchain L2, launched late 2024; early ecosystem, limited historical data available

⚠️ **Ink data caveat:** Metrics for Ink may show limited history or incomplete fee/revenue data due to recent launch.

🚀 Section 9 — L2 Ecosystem Breakdown

90-Day L2 TVL Overlay (Arbitrum / Base / Polygon / Ink)

**Ethereum ecosystem token valuation matrix.** Primary valuation lens: **P/S ratio** (FDV ÷ annualized revenue) — lower = cheaper relative to protocol earnings. Sorted ascending to surface the best-valued tokens.

**Investment framework by token type:**
- **Revenue-accruing tokens** (AAVE, MKR/SKY, LDO, PENDLE) — P/S ratio directly meaningful
- **Governance-only tokens** (UNI pre-fee-switch, ARB, POL) — option value on future fee activation; require network value thesis
- **Growth tokens** (MORPHO, ENA) — premium P/S justified by growth trajectory and recent TVL expansion

**Sector tailwinds (May 2026):** Lending 0.74 bullish · RWA 0.88 bullish · Basis trading 0.89 bullish. These benefit AAVE, MORPHO, MKR/SKY, ENA. Note: EIGEN has limited liquidity — treat P/S with caution. ARB and POL have governance/sequencer value beyond protocol fees.
