About Phemex
Phemex is a derivatives-focused cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2019 by former Morgan Stanley executives including Jack Tao, launched its trading platform in November 2019 and claims more than 10 million users. Federico Variola serves as CEO, named in official Phemex blog and LinkedIn posts, while Jack Tao's current role is not publicly disclosed. The venue launched TradFi traditional-asset futures in February 2026 with a zero fee promotion that ran through May 2026, and now lists more than 130 such contracts covering US stocks, ETFs, equity indices, precious metals, energy and four pre-IPO names, SpaceX, Anthropic, OpenAI and QNTX. All are USDT-settled linear perpetuals on the same engine as its crypto futures, tagged in the public API with perpProductSubType TradFi or PreMarket, with funding every 8 hours on most TradFi contracts and every 4 hours on some. Base futures fees are 0.01 percent maker and 0.06 percent taker now that the launch promotion has ended. Phemex's terms name Phemex Poland sp. z o.o. as a group entity and apply Singapore governing law, and the exchange restored withdrawals within days of a January 2025 hot wallet hack that third-party analysts estimated at $69 to 85 million.
