MON is used to pay gas fees and is staked to secure the network and participate in governance.
Governance Rights
ControlThere is no onchain token governance. Protocol changes happen through validator adoption of new client software, taking effect only when validators representing at least 2/3 of stake weight upgrade. MON holders influence indirectly by choosing which validators to stake with or delegate to. Per the token sale disclosure, MON holders cannot directly vote on proposals.
Governance Decisions
There are no plans for onchain MON governance.
Treasury Decisions
The Monad Foundation stewards the Ecosystem Development allocation for grants, incentives, and validator delegation, spent over many years. Category Labs separately holds a Treasury allocation for future employee compensation.
Revenue Decisions
Transaction fees split into a base component (burned) and a priority component (to the block-producing validator). No protocol revenue accrues to a treasury or to MON holders.
Fee Switch
OFFThe base fee is burned and the priority fee goes to the producing validator. No fee revenue is routed to a treasury or distributed to MON holders.
Primary Value Accrual
Deflationary supply reductionSupply is elastic. Each block mints a 25 MON reward (about 2B MON, ~2% of initial supply, per year), split among stakers of the producing validator. The base-fee burn partially offsets this. Net direction depends on usage.
Equity Statement
The Monad Foundation does not have equity holders. Investors in Category Labs, a for-profit corporation, received equity interests and MON token warrants. The rights and value accrual mechanisms associated with the MON token and equity in Category Labs are separate and distinct. Any value accrual in Category Labs equity is tied solely to the revenue earned by Category Labs as a professional services organization and not to the performance of the protocol or the MON token.
Economic Rights
Value CaptureMON tokens do not represent equity, ownership or profit-sharing rights in Monad Foundation or Category Labs, or any entitlement to Monad protocol revenue. Stakers (and their delegators) earn block-reward emissions for securing the network.
